Attacking and defending

Attacking is a key skill to know for a forward role in football. The player needs a eye for goal and keen to find options to create a goal.

On the other hand defending is a key skill to know as a defender role in football. This type of player needs to be aware of his space and where the players on the ball are. A defender also needs to time is tackles so he does not draw out a foul. If the defenders timing isn’t right he/she could risk of giving a free kick or foul. The defender needs to stand side on to the forward so the attacker doesn’t run past him/her easily. This technique gives the attacker less space because he can’t gain the ground to strike the ball.

This is a example of standing side on in a 1-on-1 situation. The defender is sticking to his man and pressing him wide away from goal.

Strengths: I can jockey a player when he is on the ball well and keep him at bay so he can’t get a cross into the box or make a attacking move. I can also get the attacker away from goal and push them wide so there is no threat.

Weakness: I need to learn on how to adjust my body to be able to move forward on goal. To improve my attacking ability I need to be able to use all my key skills and get closer to the the goal so I can score or pass it off.
